SINGING SENSATION GLADYS KNIGHT REVEALS HER PERSONAL
RECIPE FOR LIVING WELL, EATING RIGHT, AND LOVING LIFE

Few performers are as well-known as singing sensation Gladys Knight. What many people don't know, however, is that Knight spent much of her life struggling with her weight and fearing that, like her mother, she would be diagnosed with diabetes. In her new book, AT HOME WITH GLADYS KNIGHT: Her Personal Recipe For Living Well, Eating Right, and Loving Life, she reveals this little-known part of her personal story, and shares how she turned her life around and became committed to a healthful lifestyle. Told with verve, and full of practical advice as well as delicious recipes, her new book will motivate others to do the same.

From the time she was a little girl, food played a central role in Gladys Knight's life. In AT HOME WITH GLADYS KNIGHT, she explains how one of her favorite childhood treats was eating doughnuts at midnight, and how every family get-together was a celebration of southern cooking featuring recipes passed down from generation to generation. As a result, her battle with the bulge began early in life. She joined her first weight loss program at the age of sixteen and tried more diets and regimes than she can recall. Finally, she reached a turning point. "I was tired of shying away from the camera every time someone wanted to take my picture. I was tired of feeling self-conscious," she says.

Working with a personal trainer, the entertainer finally found a plan that worked and that she could stick to. In AT HOME WITH GLADYS KNIGHT, she shares that program and shows how anyone can adopt it. Some of her tips - which all people can use whether or not they have diabetes - include:
  • If you can't wash it, don't eat it - natural foods are the best, and if a food can be washed off, it's likely to be fresh and close to the earth. This includes fruits, vegetables, most meats, seafood, rice, grains, and beans.
  • Make your eating plan livable for you - knowing you can fit favorite foods into a healthy meal plan makes you feel less deprived, and more willing to commit to a healthy lifestyle.
  • Be aware of serving sizes - what most people consider a serving is, in fact, jumbo-sized.
  • Eat small amounts of healthy food throughout the day - this boosts metabolism and makes your stomach smaller.
  • Regular exercise - this is your best bet for looking and feeling great.
  • Every little bit counts when it comes to physical activity - exercise doesn't have to be structured or vigorous to provide positive results. Chores and yard work count, too.
  • Reward yourself - getting your life fitness-friendly is hard work, and you deserve some compensation, such as going out for a nice meal or to a movie.
  • Enlist the help of others - having others join your quest for fitness can go a long way towards keeping you motivated.

Knight also includes dozens of her own favorite recipes that are not only healthful, but delicious - such as Spicy Apple Salsa, Chocolate Almond Smoothie, Curried Tuna & Fruit Salad, Dilled Cucumber Dressing, Old-Time Beef Stew, Broccoli Cheese Casserole, Grilled Dijon Chicken Breasts, Herbed Lamb Chops, and Banana Bran Muffins.

From healthy eating to exercise to staying motivated, AT HOME WITH GLADYS KNIGHT
provides a comprehensive plan for living well, while also offering an inside peek into the life of one of the world's favorite performers.
